The first site that I am doing is www.poddater.com. The main concept of pod dating is relatively simple. What you have to do is sign up for the site then you can find people all over the world, in your country or city that are on the site who are looking for a relationship or friends. You can specifically find people in your area or you can just browse through profiles and check out the ones you like. Pod dater sounds like a normal dating site but it has its differences. For one, the reason why it is called pod dating is because when you make a profile you are supposed to take a short video of yourself and post it on your profile. This helps the people that are interested see that it is really you and lets them know a little about you. There is also another exciting difference about pod dater, you can download your pod daters onto your iPod so that you know who they are when you meet them.
Many people use this site who vary in ages. The main target age of the site is for people around 18-45. This site also isn’t just a dating site, you can specifically find people that just want friends that you can talk to. This site promotes communication, collaboration, sharing and social networking by showing other people that it is really you and telling them about yourself instead of being just another profile on a plain dating site. It helps people realizes that you are real and not using a fake picture to impress people. It also helps sharing because when the person that you are going to meet downloads your video clip onto their iPod the can share your video with other people.
I think that this site will fix the many problems that a typical dating site has such as people using fake pictures. This helps you see the real person and know what who you are getting involved with. I think it will also help when you meet the person because if you have their clip on your iPod it will be easier to find them. Some problems I see that this site could have would be that not everyone can make a video clip and post it on the profile very easily. People also could have slower computers and it would take to long and be too much of a hassle to wait for them to load.
I like this site because it shows that the creators took time and effort into seeing what the problems in a normal dating site would have and tried to fix them. I also like it because it appeals to modern day people who use their iPod a lot. It is very easy to browse around and look at profile and then videos don’t take too long to load. Even if your iPod isn’t a video iPod you can still put the clip onto it.
Interesting. How does a person use the iPod video clip to find the person they are dating though? I’m still a bit unclear as to how this site is different to a regular dating site.
Also, when you say you can still put videos on your iPod even if it is a non-video iPod, how does that work?
Also, I am still a bit confused as to what specifically makes this a Web2.0 application. I guess most dating sites, even the older ones, are essentially a Web2.0 type service in that they enable two way communication between people and easy updating.
Just looked at the site… there was a whole lot that you could have said about the way the RSS feeds work to keep you updated on people you like… it’s like a music subscription, only with people! Bizarre!
